KIDS JUKIDO
In Kokondo martial arts we emphasize self defense and perfecting our
techniques rather than sport competition. Our number one concern is
the safety of the students. And the number one concern for the students is
the safety of their partner. We want the kids to learn to do the best they can at whatever they are
doing. Success comes from hard work. They are taught to concentrate on the
task at hand and to avoid any distractions. For example one cannot complete a
homework assignment while trying to watch TV. They are taught that
they must try without being afraid to make a mistake. We learn from our mistakes
and with practice become better. We acknowledge what they do correctly
helping to develop self confidence. Their self confidence increases each time
they know they did their very best. We do not place pads on their hands and feet and judge how well they
kick and strike another. This training would only find its way to the school
playground or other inappropriate place. Instead the kids practice
role playing self defense situations. They learn the correct responses to
resolve these situations. For example if someone grabs their sleeve they have
the right to escape from the grab. However they do not have the right to
strike that person.
